Support the Africa Rising Mushroom Festival

Baltispore is raising funds to support Josephine in her mission to organize the Africa Rising Mushroom Festival and provide essential education and resources to women and children in rural Uganda. Every donation will contribute to empowering this community, enabling them to earn an income through mushroom cultivation.

Eco-Agric Uganda is an organization dedicated to assisting impoverished women and girls in rural Uganda. Since our launch in 2007, we have provided education and training in agricultural practices, including mushroom cultivation, which has significantly empowered local women. 

Our mission with Africa Rising is three-fold: raising the profile of Ugandan and African mushroom cultivation globally, educating children and local communities on mycology and mushroom cultivation, and fundraising to support girls’ education, thereby improving their life prospects.

The 2024 Africa Rising Mushroom Festival, held from October 23rd to 25th, features a lineup of talks, workshops, activities, and foraging, showcasing the best of mycology from Africa and beyond. The program is as follows:

October 23rd - Children Day: Children of all ages will have the opportunity to learn about mushroom growing, from substrate sterilization to cultivation. Additionally, they will be introduced to vegetable growing and briquette making, central activities to Eco-Agric Uganda’s operations.

October 24th - Community Building: This day, spanning four sites, offers a unique opportunity to learn the theory and practice of mushroom growing in Uganda. Presentations will cover the history of mushroom growing in Central Uganda and provide an in-depth look at Eco-Agric Uganda’s vital work in supporting local women and girls through mushroom cultivation. The day also features an exciting lineup of international speakers discussing their specialist topics, with the full lineup to be announced.

October 25th - Foraging: New to the 2024 edition of Africa Rising, participants will head to Bugoma Forest to identify and collect wild mushrooms. All talks will be available both onsite and online.
