Cordyceps will turn you into a ZOMBIE?! Not so fast…

Cordyceps will turn you into a ZOMBIE?! Not so fast…

My name is Michael Holcomb and I’m one of the founders of Baltispore. I’ve been using mushrooms to heal myself and grow as a person for over 12 years. Today I want to specifically talk about Cordyceps- a mushroom I’m personally forever grateful for.  If the only thing you’ve heard about Cordyceps is that it will turn you into a zombie, I got some news for you… it won’t.

So… Let’s get nerdy.

Mushrooms have long been known for their medicinal and nutritional benefits. Cordyceps, a type of fungus, is no exception. Baltispore, a mushroom company based in Baltimore, Maryland, aims to show that mushrooms and Cordyceps are not only the future, but also the past and the present. Their mission is to give back to the community, help others improve their health, and spread awareness about the benefits of mushrooms and Cordyceps.

Cordyceps is a type of parasitic fungus that grows on insects. It has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries and is believed to have a variety of health benefits. One of the most well-known benefits of Cordyceps is its ability to improve athletic performance.

In a study conducted by the University of Malaya in Malaysia, it was found that Cordyceps can increase the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) in the body. ATP is a molecule that provides energy to our cells, and an increase in ATP can lead to improved athletic performance.

Cordyceps has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is linked to many chronic diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. By reducing inflammation, Cordyceps may help prevent these diseases.

Despite its wonderful real life benefits, for some reason, mushrooms have been depicted in a negative light in popular culture for a long time. Cordyceps being the most recent example, in the series The Last of Us. In the show, a mutated strain of Cordyceps infects humans, turning them into aggressive monsters. While this portrayal is fictional, it has led to misconceptions about the fungus. It is important to note that the strain of Cordyceps depicted in The Last of Us is a mutated strain that does not exist in the real world.

So no… adding Cordyceps to your daily regimen will not turn you a zombie.

On the contrary, I believe it’s powerful anti inflammatory properties is what has helped me manage (what would be) intense chronic pain post major surgery (reverse shoulder replacement). Also, more remarkably, prevent tumors I previously had from coming back for the last seven years.

At Baltispore, we are dedicated to bringing the benefits of Cordyceps and other mushrooms to the community.
